Z. Johnson bumps Bubba in Presidents Cup standings

Thanks to his second high finish in as many weeks, former Masters champion Zach Johnson has vaulted into the top 10 in the standings for the U.S. Presidents Cup team with six weeks left until the first 10 spots on the team are finalized.

Days after losing a playoff at the John Deere Classic, Johnson held the 18-hole lead at the British Open en route to a T-6 finish. Fourteenth in the U.S. standings just two weeks ago, Johnson now holds a slim lead for the 10th and final automatic qualifying spot over Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson. The only other move in the top 10 was made by Open champion Phil Mickelson, who jumped from fourth to second thanks to his three-shot win at Muirfield.

Here's how the American team currently stands; players earn two points for every dollar earned, with the top 10 qualifiers determined based on the standings on Sept. 2 following the Deutsche Bank Championship:

1. Tiger Woods (18,481,771 points)

2. Phil Mickelson (14,152,641)

3. Matt Kuchar (13,075,015)

4. Brandt Snedeker (12,815,427)

5. Bill Haas (9,594,542)

6. Hunter Mahan (9,562,588)

7. Keegan Bradley (8,822,950)

8. Webb Simpson (8,317,603)

9. Steve Stricker (8,209,513)

10. Zach Johnson (7,636,029)

11. Bubba Watson (7,561,588)

12. Dustin Johnson (7,394,208)

On the International side, both Hideki Matsuyama and Angel Cabrera further bolstered their chances of punching a ticket to Ohio this October, thanks to finishing T-6 and T-11, respectively, at the British Open.

Here's a look at the current International standings, which are based on the Official World Golf Rankings rather than earnings, and like the U.S. version will become final on Sept. 2:

1. Adam Scott (Currently fourth in OWGR)

2. Louis Oosthuizen (12th)

3. Charl Schwartzel (13th)

4. Ernie Els (15th)

5. Jason Day (19th)

6. Branden Grace (27th)

7. Richard Sterne (33rd)

8. Hideki Matsuyama (34th)

9. Angel Cabrera (43rd)

10. Tim Clark (54th)

11. Thongchai Jaidee (58th)

12. George Coetzee (66th)

The 2013 Presidents Cup will be held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, Oct. 3-6. Captains Fred Couples (USA) and Nick Price (International) will complete their respective rosters by naming two captains' picks each on Sept. 4.
