I got you, babe.
When Sonny and Cher sang it, they had each other. In a few days - and for the right price - you, too, could have Babe ... Zaharias' golf clubs, that is.
The personal golf clubs belonging to the Hall of Fame member, 10-time LPGA major winner, and Associated Press’ female athlete of the 20th century will be auctioned on February 27 by Nate D. Sanders Auctions of Los Angeles. The minimum bid is listed at $25,000. (To bid on her golf clubs, click here.)
Zaharias played the MacGregor Tommy Armour clubs in the prestigious Tam O’Shanter All-American Tournaments, until she signed an endorsement deal with Wilson to use their clubs for tournament play. Zaharias won the Tam O’Shanter four times using the clubs to be auctioned.
The set is comprised of (1-2) 985T 9 Irons, (3-6) 653T Woods, (7) 152T Double Service P.P. Wedge, (8) Silver Scot #11 Wedge, (9) IMG Iron Master Putter. All are carried in a Hughes patented pipe organ golf bag with four matching head covers.
In case you didn't budget for the $25,000 splurge this month, purchasing Sonny and Cher's No. 1 single from 1965 - at the bargain price of $0.99 on iTunes - may be a more viable alternative.
