Hunter Mahan is the 46th ranked golfer in the world. He's been on two Ryder Cup teams and four Presidents Cup teams. He's won five times on the PGA Tour including two World Golf Championships. His career earnings exceed 25 million. His best finish in a major was a T-4 at the 2013 U.S. Open. But despite all of that, he remains just another face in the crowd.
Mahan teamed up with Under Armour two weeks ago at a Washington, D.C.-area store to go undercover and help sell some golf attire. The premise of the experiment was, "Will they recognize you?"
In one challenge, Mahan spoke with a customer while standing next to a huge poster of Mahan. The fan recognized the poster and said "Hunter Mahan? ... he's one of my favorites," yet didn't realize the man standing next to him was the PGA Tour pro.
In the customer's defense, Mahan wasn't sporting his usual goatee and was instead, clean-shaven. What I want to know is, what would have happened had he shown up in his Golf Boys attire?
