The leap into Poppie's Pond is a tradition unlike any other. OK, so it's not quite the Masters, but as the first major of the year gets underway - the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship - the Grill Room takes a look back at an exercise that has become one of the most exciting ceremonies in golf, on the day when it all began.
On this day (April 3) in 1988, in a spontaneous act of celebration, Amy Alcott leaped into the pond after winning at Mission Hills Country Club. The trend didn't catch on right away, but as it has evolved, we can't imagine a winner of the year's first major celebrating her victory in any other way.
