Sometimes meeting your heroes can be underwhelming. Fortunately, 9-year-old Charley Smyth was entirely overwhelmed by Rory McIlroy.
Smyth was a guest on the "Late Late Toy Show," an annual holiday edition of RTE One's "Late Late Show," and was as confident and talkative as could be before McIlroy showed up to surprise him.
Smyth was playing a copy of EA Sports' Rory McIlroy PGA Tour video game and rattling off every one of McIlroy's recent accomplishments to host Ryan Tubridy before McIlroy walked out on stage and rendered Smyth's mind almost completely blank.
As seen in the video, McIlroy presented Smyth with two signed copies of the video game and all-week passes to next year's Irish Open.
Beyond making the kid's day (whole life?), McIlroy has to be pleased with Smyth's awe compared to his last interaction with a young "fan."
