Heads Spinning In The Heartland

RSS

The Senior Tour members arrive in the heartland this week for the Allianz Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, with their heads spinning.

They'll be trying to regain their focus on shooting low numbers after spending last week in the thin mountain air of Utah, where high scores and the high altitude took the senior circuit for a ride.

In just its second year of existence, the event will welcome back the inaugural and defending champion, Jim Thorpe, and pray for a bit of luck from Mother Nature.

Last year's tournament was plagued by thunderstorms and rain, but managed to finish with Thorpe winning by two over Gil Morgan and three over Bruce Lietzke.

Morris Hatalsky, the victor at last week's United Fore Care Classic, will be on hand to try and go from winning a tournament with the highest score to winning an event with the low score, in the matter of one week.

The tournament is played at the Glen Oaks Country Club, measuring in at a 6,799-yard par 71.
