PARAMUS, N.J. – A good start is what he needed. A terrific start is what he got. Tiger Woods' first shot of the 2010 FedEx Cup playoffs split the fairway, leaving him 100 yards into Ridgewood CC's par-4 first. A baby wedge 15 feet below the hole left him the easiest of opening opportunities, which he converted.
Woods, teeing off in Thursday's first group for the first time in his career, hit his first seven greens and added three more early birdies to reach four under at The Barclays. His gallery, which usually constitutes at least half the total people on the grounds, grew larger and louder by the swing. The course is defenseless, the weather just about perfect, and so, too, is the world's embattled No. 1.
