Olsen Drives His Way to The Regionals

The Golf Channels Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition visited Sterling Farms Golf Course in Stamford, Connecticut, on Tuesday, July 17, 2001. This was another great event where 210 golfers participated on a beautiful summer day.
John Olsen, age 12 from Mahwah, New Jersey finished in first place among all golfers. John finished first in Driving, and finished in second place in both Chipping and Putting. Johns first place finish will allow him to advance to The Constitutional Regional Finals on Sunday, July 29, for a chance to advance to The National Finals.
After Johns impressive finish on Tuesday, The Golf Channel took some time to get to know a little bit more about John.
John has been playing golf for eight years and his favorite golfer is Jack Nicklaus. He said Jack is his favorite because he has the most wins and still plays great at age 61. More importantly, John told us that his favorite sport is golf, but he does enjoy playing basketball, baseball, tennis, football, and riding bikes. John also said he enjoys school. Math and Science are his favorite subjects because in Math you can use equations to solve problems, and Science is just interesting.
John also told us that he just got his first eagle (on a par 4) the day before his first place finish at The Golf Channels Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition. John also won a Pioneer Tournament in Northern New Jersey this summer. Great job, John!
The Golf Channel would like to congratulate all participants, parents, volunteers, sponsors, and Sterling Farms Golf Staff for an outstanding Event.
