Greenville & Augusta
On April 30, 2002,The Golf Channels Drive, Chip and Putt Junior Golf Skills Competition made its first ever tour stop in Greenville, SC. Verdae Greens Golf Club provided the venue for this event and 218 junior golfers came out to showcase their enthusiasm for golf. The large attendance for this first-time city proved that the Clemson Tigers are not the only reason to get excited about Golf in Greenville. We had nine Drive, Chip and Putt rookies qualify for the Low Country Regional Championship that will take place in Savannah, GA in mid- May. With the wonderful interest we found for Junior Golf in 2002 we will surely make a return trip to Greenville, SC.
From Greenville, the tour made its swing into one of Golfs legendary cities, Augusta, GA. For the 2nd consecutive year, The First Tee of Augusta hosted this event and just as in 2001, the attendance was tremendous. 165 kids from the Augusta area put on a show that the patrons of The Masters would have been proud of. We saw many familiar faces in the crowd from past years, but also had many junior golfers experience Drive, Chip and Putt for the first time. With its rich golf tradition, Augusta will always be one our programs favorite stops of the year.
