On Wednesday, June 27, 2001, The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition was held at Highland Park Golf Learning Center, in the Chicagoland Area. Over 100 participants competed for the chance to advance to The Great Lakes Regional Finals, which will be held at Timber Ridge Golf Club on Saturday, July 14, in Lansing, Michigan.
The Golf Channel watched two brothers, Ryan and Kevin Koziol, both from Orland Park, Illinois, qualify for The Great Lakes Regional Finals. Both boys really got interested in golf when they were on a family vacation in Hawaii. Even though they enjoy golf, they also have many other interests.
Ryan, age 7, has been golfing since he was three. Ryan's favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson, especially because Ryan is left-handed like Phil. Ryan told us that he also enjoys rollerblading, swimming, riding his bike, and especially baseball (his favorite). Ryan also catches 6 ft. 3 inch Blue Marlins in his spare time, of course when he isn't doing his homework. Don't be fooled by Ryan's outdoor interests, because he is also a Math Olympian Champ.
Older brother, Kevin, who is 9, has also been playing golf since he was three. Kevin's favorite golfer is Tiger Woods, but says that his favorite athlete is Ken Griffey Jr. Kevin's favorite sport is baseball and he is a big Chicago White Sox Fan. Kevin is a pitcher for the Mariners, who play in the Mustang League. His team has been in first place for three years, and thanks to Kevin's 13 Home Runs this year, the Mariners are on their way to The Playoffs- again!
Congratulations to Ryan, Kevin, and all of the golfers who participated at Highland Park Golf Learning Center!
