The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition returned to The Academy at Waterchase in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, June 9, 2001 for an unbelievable event. The Academy at Waterchase was the sight of a regular event where over 170 kids ages 7-12 participated. Before the start of the event, a world renowned bagpiper played as the participants were escorted to the opening ceremonies by The Golf Channel Staff and Bill and Jody Keith.
The real reason that this event was such a success was due to the energy, excitement, and heart that Bill and Jody Keith (owners and operators of Waterchase) put into the event. It was their idea to have the bagpiper play, it was their motivation that made the event so exciting, and it was their love for kids and the game of golf that made the entire day so special for all that were involved.
The Academy at Waterchase was also the host to the televised Lonestar Regional Finals, which will air on The Golf Channel early in July. The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills competition was capped off by naming three participants as National Finalists. Eight year old, David Miles from The Woodlands, Texas (7-8 division, and first time National Finalist return player), Ford Fischer, age 10, from Plano, Texas (9-10 division), and Bryston Jimenez, age 11, from Hale Center, Texas (11-12 division) were all named as three of the 54 National Finalists who will compete at Walt Disney World on October 27, 2001.
