Kalamazoo and Lansing
It was a beautiful sunny day at Year Round Golf, located in Kalamazoo, MI, where kids from all around the Great Lakes Region came out and demonstrated their golfing talent. All of our participants showed high energy and emotion. Colin Van Es of Granger, IL exposed overwhelming joy when he captured the 11&12 year-old division. We will see Colin and all of the other regional finalists at the Great Lakes Regional Finals held in Lansing, MI on July 14. Also, special thanks to Mike Valk and volunteers of Year Round Golf for all of their support.
The next competition brought out Jr. Golfers from the Lansing, MI area to Timber Ridge Golf Club. This setting could not have been more perfect for the local and regional final events. One of the longest drives all year came from Adam Scott, a local contestant in the 11-12 year old division. His drive of 256 yards gained him 1st place in the local competition and moved him onto the regional finals.
This past weeks regional final will be one for the history books, as a playoff decided who advanced to the national finals in Orlando, FL on October 27. Adam Scott of East Lansing and Steven Schreck from Winnetka, IL had a putting playoff that was decided only by a matter of inches. The inches went to Adam Scott, the days earlier local competition winner of the 11-12 year old age division. Other national finalists include Nicholas Robles of Streamwood, IL as he took the 7-8 year old, and Shannon Warner of Livonia, MI progresses through the 9-10 year old division. Shannon has one of the more graceful swings we have seen and will be a threat come Halloween time in Orlando.
