Spotlight Article Tulsa - US Open


It' official! The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition has broken a record by having more than 320 kids participate at an event. On Monday, June 11, 2001, The Golf Channel's Junior Golf Skills Team assisted the United States Golf Association and the Tulsa First-Tee Program with the successful operation of The U.S. Open Junior Golf Day at Mohawk Park Golf Course.
The day started with a nice welcoming by Susan Savage, The Mayor of Tulsa. Mayor Savage also brought greetings from Oklahoma Governor, Frank Keating and Congressman, Steve Largent, who declared Monday, June 11, 2001 Junior Golf Day in The State of Oklahoma. The President of The United States Golf Association, Dr. Trey Holland, also had welcoming remarks for the participants. The event continued with an exciting and entertaining trick-shot display by Dennis Walters and his dog, Benji Hogan.
After all participants completed their golfing experience, Outback Steakhouse, a National Sponsor of The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition, fed all players, parents and volunteers.
Upon completion of the Outback Steakhouse Lunch, all players piled back into their buses to be led by The Oklahoma State Highway Patrol and The Golf Channel's Drive, Chip & Putt Bus to Southern Hills Country Club for a tour of The U.S. Open Course.
It was a great day for everyone and The Golf Channel was proud to be involved.
