The Golf Channels Drive, Chip and Putt Junior Golf Skills Competition held its final two events of the Sunshine State Region in Gainesville and Tallahassee. The Gainesville event was threatened by thunderstorms all day and finally did get a brief shower in the beginning of the event. However, this did not drown out the excitement of these junior golfers from the Gainesville area. The event concluded with nine golfers advancing to the Sunshine State Regional Championship in St. Augustine.
From gator country, The Golf Channels Drive, Chip and Putt Junior Golf Skills Competition moved North into Seminole territory. The Tallahassee area Drive, Chip and Putt was held at Don Vellers Seminole Golf Course. Under the beauty of bright blue skies, 125 junior golfers showed their best golf shots. With Tallahassee producing two National Finalists in 2001, we were once again treated to some great golf in 2002. There were many familiar faces in the group such as Brandon Shelly who once again qualified for the Audubon Trail Regional Championship in Baton Rouge. Will Tallahassee once again produce two national finalists? Well find out next week in Baton Rouge.
