SPOTLIGHT - Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach Regional

In beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on April 21, The Golf Channels Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills Competition made its stop at Whispering Pines Golf Course. Many people would argue that Myrtle Beach be considered a golf capital. This argument was strengthened by the exceptional play and high-level of enthusiasm provided by the local junior golfers. This event was very unique because The Golf Channel was partnered with The City of Myrtle Beach. We were also lucky enough to have Mayor McBride and Mayor Tilghman in attendance supporting the Junior Golfers. Mayor Tilghman was not only there supporting the event, but was also cheering on his son Tyler, who qualified for the Regional Final. Because of the support provided by these special individuals and groups, the Whispering Pines qualifying event was a success.
The third televised Junior Golf Skills Competition Regional Final of the 2001 season took place on April 22, at Pine Lakes International Country Club. The scenery provided by Pines Lines Country Club could not have been more beautiful for this televised event. The scenery and hospitality were not the only highlights out at Pine Lakes on Sunday. The play of these regional finalists was first-class as well. The large crowd of spectators, which included Mayor Mcbride and Mayor Tiglmen, were not disappointed. The several Golf Channel cameras that were present at this event did not intimidate these young golfers at all. The competition ended in an exciting putting playoff to decide the third place finisher in the 11 and 12 age group. This was the second putting playoff of the year for Geo Yang. The Golf Channel will be airing this event in late May.
