Even with wind chills below freezing and occasional snow flurries flying through the air, 11 year old Branden Dalton of Fernley, Nevada was able to capture first place overall at The Golf Channels Drive, Chip & Putt Jr. Golf Skills competition. On Monday, April 9 at Red Hawk Golf Club in Sparks, Nevada, Branden was the top finisher among 90 other golfers. This fifth grader at Conwood Elementary is not only a huge Tiger Woods fan, but is just as competitive as Tiger. Branden said that he loves competition and that is what has been his internal motivation since he started golfing four years ago. Brandens competitiveness showed during the event, just like his excitement and the knickers he wears in tournaments. Branden is no stranger to success either, as he is the defending champion of The Northern Nevada Jr. Golf Association Tournament of Champions.
Branden said that he wants to be a professional golfer when he grows up, and if he keeps on shooting 76, as he did from the white tees at Desert Lakes Golf Club last year, he will have no problem. Branden uses his Titleist DCI 961 irons to shoot his low scores and win golf tournaments. Branden is just like any other 11 year old boy playing baseball, soccer, and basketball when he isnt playing golf or video games. Branden said that his favorite subjects in school are History and Math. If Branden keeps playing the way he is, not only will he be making history, but adding the numbers on his scorecard will be easy.
