2001 was an exciting season for defending champion Carin Koch. The leggy blond captured her first LPGA Tour win in Corning with husband Stefan on the bag.
The sultry Swede posted four consecutive rounds in the 60s, outplaying runners 'up Maria Hjorth and Mhairi Mckay by two strokes ' to win the lions share of the $900,000 purse - $135,000.
Koch - currently ranked 14th on the money list - finished in the top-5 last week.
This week, in addition to the temperature, Koch must weather four rounds of golf against two-time Corning champion (1996-97) and LPGA veteran Rosie Jones, Mi Hyun Kim, as well as former champions Kelli Kuehne (1999) and Beth Daniel (1994). Fresh faced rookies Stephanie Keever and Nicole Dalkas also join the field after quallifying Monday.
Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Se Ri Pak are not scheduled to play this week.
