Driver Woes for Tschetter

RSS

Kris Tschetter of Sioux Falls, SD thought someone was pulling the wool over her eyes on Wednesday of the Welch's/Circle K Championship. The 14-year veteran picked up her clubs from storage on Wednesday morning and the bag was one club lighter. Overnight her driver, a Ping I-2, had disappeared out of her bag.

'At first my caddie and I thought that each of us was playing a joke on the other,' Tschetter said. 'Then we realized it was gone!'

After a couple of calls, a new driver was delivered to the 1992 Northgate Computer Classic champion, but she determined it to be a little too heavy for her. Once again she made some calls and on Thursday morning at 5:30am a friend of hers drove down from Phoenix with a new driver - one that was closer to the original.

Tschetter shot a 71 in the opening round and followed suit with 67 on Friday, shooting an impressive 30 on the front nine. Impressive because this week marks only her second appearance since being sidelined from golf for the last 8 months after severely tearing cartilage and the labrum in her hip.

Dr. Joe McCarthy - the same doctor that operated on Jack Nicklaus - repaired the damage, and Tschetter made her return at this year's LPGA Takefuji Classic. She finished in the middle of the pack.

Tschetter currently stands tied at 6-under-par 138.
