Amateur Hangs Tough
Aree Wongluekiets first round of 71 was followed with a turbulent round that left her 1-over 145 going into the weekend. Her second round of 74 insured that she was low amateur for the second day in a row.
Beth Daniel and Jones - two long-time veterans of the LPGA Tour ' managed to shoot sub-par rounds and keep up with 30-year-old Annika Sorenstam, tying her for second place on a day when even par was considered a good score.
No Holes Here
No one has made a hole-in-one yet this week, which by LPGA standards is unusual. Only one has been made this season, even though the average is about one per event. Charlotta Sorenstam recorded the first and only hole-in-one this year during the first round of the LGPA Takefuji Classic with her 7-iron from 156 yards.
It's an Honor
Marlene Hagge-Vossler talked about becoming the 20th member of the Hall of Fame at a celebration and roast hosted by 12 other members of the Hall of Fame that took place Thursday night at Mission Hills Country Club. 'You go through life, you hit your shots, you turn in your card and you don't really know how wonderful it is to be part of the golf tour,' Hagge-Vossler - one of the 13 founding members of the LPGA - said.
