Scotswoman Takes First Round Lead

RSS

Native Scot Janice Moodie finished what remained of her first round early this morning.

Moodie was among the fifty-four players unable to complete their rounds on Thursday due to inclement weather.

The Glasgow resident recorded 5-under-par 67 to jump ahead of Englands Johanna Head and Laura Davies.

The two Englishwomen, who lead the field at dusk Thursday, now sit one off the lead.

American Kelly Robbins is tied with Germanys Elisabeth Esterl at 3-under 69.

Robbins leads the way for the Americans who thus far have not posted any remarkable scores. Fellow countrywoman Jill McGill is three strokes off the lead, along with Grace Park and Rosie Jones.

Swedens Annika Sorenstam lurks among the pack tied at 2-under 70. Like co-rival Karrie Webb, Sorenstam was able to complete the first round on Thursday.

Although somewhat fatigued from her late arrival to Sunningdale, Sorenstam worked with her instructor last week and feels prepared for the final major. Ive got high expectations, like every week, Sorenstam said. Im very happy with my game.

Annika, the No.1 female player in the world, took home the first major of the year but it was Webb who captured the next two. Now Ms. 59 has an opportunity to even the tally and she is off to a good start.
