Barber played bogey-free golf while draining six birdies en route to a tying a course record 6-under-par 65 and a two-day total of 135, good enough for a 1-stroke lead over Marty Schiene of Chicago, Il.

D.A. Points (Pekin, Il.), Eamonn Brady (Ireland) and Jess Daley (Chicago, Il.) are three shots back. A total of 18 of the 132 golfers will have to finish their rounds Saturday morning.

Points set the course record earlier in the day before Barber matched the feat later. Canadians Craig Matthew (Ile Bizard, QC) and Dave Levesque (Ste-Foy, QC), who both held a share of the lead after Thursday's play, struggled in the second round. Matthew carded a 7-over-par 78 Friday while Levesque was 4-over through fourteen.
