Texas Challenge Set in Austin


Canadian Tour-LargeThe Canadian Tour wraps up its two-event swing through the Lone Star State this week with the Texas Challenge.
A total of 144 golfers from six countries will tee it up in Thursdays opening round at the 6859-yard, par-72 Circle C Ranch. The United States leads the way with 98 participants in the starting field, followed by Canada with 38. South Africa will be represented by four golfers, Ireland and Mexico two each and Argentina one.
Last weekend, Steve Scott of Florida held off Hank Kuehne, Jeff Quinney and Roger Tambellini by one stroke to win the Texas Classic in Houston, the Tours first official event of the season.
Scott, Kuehne and Quinney are in Austin this week, along with defending Order of Merit champion Aaron Barber and Jason Bohn, who wound up third on the money list last year. Leading the Canadian charge will be Craig Matthew, Doug McGuigan and Derek Gillespie. Also gaining an exemption into the event is Robert Floyd, son of the legendary Ray Floyd.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and mild temperatures right through Sunday's final round.
The Golf Channel will carry live, four-round coverage from Circle C beginning at 2 p.m. ET Thursday through Sunday.
