GUADALAJARA, Mexico--The Canadian Tour kicks off its two-event swing through Mexico this week with the $150,000 Michelin Guadalajara Classic.

A total of 156 golfers are slated to tee it up at the lush 6815-yard, par-71 Guadalajara Country Club when opening round action gets underway Thursday. It will be the third official event of the 2003 campaign, with Anders Hultman and Rob Johnson winning titles earlier this year in Austin, TX.

It will be the Canadian Tours second visit to Mexico, but its first stop in Guadalajara. Last season, Mexicos own Pablo del Olmo used a sponsors exemption to win the Michelin Ixtapa Classic by four shots over Californian Bryan Saltus. The 33-year-old del Olmo will look for a second win on his native soil this week, and will be back in Ixtapa to defend his title at next weeks Corona Ixtapa Classic.

The majority of the starting field will be made up of Canadian Tour members, with 29 spots being filled by Tour de Las Americas and Mexican Tour players. The remainder of the field is comprised of sponsors exemptions and four Monday qualifiers. Derek Gillespie (Oshawa ON), David Hearn (Brantford, ON), Jon Mills (Oshawa, ON) and Darren Griff (Salt Spring Island, BC) will lead the Canadian charge into Guadalajara. Jason Bohn, Michael Harris, Roger Tambellini and Alex Rocha, as well as Mexican natives del Olmo and Alex Quiroz, are other players to watch this week.
