*Pat Perez, who grew up playing at Torrey Pines, was introduced Friday on the first tee at the South Course by his father, Tony, who is a starter. Perez went on to shoot 1-over 73 and missed the cut by a shot.
*Tiger Woods has now shot 77 or higher six times as a professional on the PGA Tour (14 times, including as a amateur). His highest professional rounds were 78s in the third round of the 1999 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and in the second round of the 1996 Tour Championship.
*Mark O'Meara is playing in his fifth consecutive event; and in his mid-40s, his body is taking a bit of a beating. His neck has been hurting for nearly four of those five weeks. He plans to take two weeks off, and take his family to Park City, Utah for the Winter Olympics. He said hell then return for another five-week stretch.
*New Zealander Craig Perks shot 8-under 64 at the North Course to move from tied for 112th into a tie for 11th place. He is at 6-under, three off the lead.
*Steve Jones, Chris Perry and Billy Mayfair all withdrew in between the first and second rounds. Duffy Waldorf played eight holes Friday before withdrawing due to a back injury.
*The North Course (69.365) played over four shots easier than the South Course (73.425) in the second round. The South Course will be played exclusively over the final two rounds.
