Going green and going for birdie

RSS

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Larry Goetz isn't a shy man. No one who wears green plus-fours, green-striped socks and shoes, and a backwards beret on the golf course can ever be considered low key.

His golf bag is embroidered with 'Larry 'Hole-in-One' Goetz.'

'Got one of them,' he said of his first and only ace back in 2002 . 'Hit a 6-iron from 165 yards on a local course in Santa Monica.'

The 63-year-old Californian didn't get his second career hole-in-one on the par-3 17th at TPC Sawgrass Thursday, but he did make birdie, placing his tee shot 20 feet right of the hole and then rolling in the subsequent putt.

If you couldn't hear his joyous yell from two holes over, you could still likely see a green blur jumping up and down.
