Colin Montgomerie and the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England - a match made in heaven.

The 37-year-old Scot has won four of the last five events contested on Wentworth's famous West Course. Three of those victories came courtesy of the last three Volvo PGA Championships. The fourth came a year ago at this week's tournament, the Cisco World Match Play Championship.

Montgomerie is one of 12 players seeking the $367,000 first-place check. Last year, Monty defeated 1998 champion Mark O'Meara 3-and-2 in the final.

Montgomerie is in search of his eighth consecutive Order of Merit title. He currently stands in 6th position, over $600,000 behind leader Lee Westwood. Both men are entered in this week's event, though the earnings are unofficial.

There are four official events remaining on the 2000 European Tour schedule. And while Montgomerie only plans to play in two of them - the Volvo Masters and the WGC American Express Championship - there is still enough money on offer for him to surpass Westwood for the top spot.

Play will begin Thursday. The top four seeds get a bye into the second round.
