*Tiger Woods was originally scheduled to play Southern Hills, site of this years U.S. Open, on Tuesday. However, he attended the funeral of Mark OMearas mother, Nelda, instead. Woods was to make the trip with OMeara.
*David Duval is playing this week and next week at the Colonial; however, these may be the final tournaments for Duval heading to the U.S. Open. Duval will skip the Memorial to see one of his best friends get married, and he doesnt plan to play the Kemper or the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
The extended layoff shouldnt hurt the worlds No. 7 ranked player. He missed five weeks due to tendinitis in his right wrist prior to the Masters, where he finished runner-up to Woods.
*David Toms had the misfortune of following Woods on Wednesday. An hour after Woods held an audience of over 100 during his press conference, Toms walked into the interview room. All of six reporters were present.
*Donna Caponi may now be a reporter, but she made news Tuesday for her days as a player. The veterans committee officially elected Caponi, who is covering the Byron Nelson Classic for The Golf Channel, into the LPGA Hall of Fame. She received the necessary 75 percent of the players vote.
Caponi, who won 24 times in her LPGA career, first got the news Tuesday upon returning from a family safari in Africa. I was checking my phone messages and it was the first one, she said. I was standing in baggage claims and wanted to scream, but I was surrounded by strangers.
