Scotland Has Revenge on Mind

RSS

Scotland will get a chance to avenge past defeats at the hands of the English in this week's Alfred Dunhill Cup. The top-seeded team has been placed in the same qualifying group with England, Germany and Wales.

Scotland has faced England five times in Dunhill Cup history. England has won all five matches.

Colin Montgomerie, Gary Orr and Andrew Coltart will represent the home team at the Old Course at St. Andrews. However, Montgomerie won't get the opportunity for revenge over Englishman Lee Westwood, who defeated him in last week's Cisco World Match Play final.

Westwood is taking a break following his 38-hole victory over the big Scotsman. Of course, the venue might also have played a role in his absence. Westwood has been critical of the Old Course in the past.

Jamie Spence, Brian Davis and Roger Chapman will represent England. They will open against a Welsh team that consists of Phil Price, Ian Woosnam and David Park. Meanwhile, Scotland will face Germany in round one. Bernhard Langer, Sven Struver and Thomas Gogele compose the German team.

Defending champion, and third-seeded, Spain is in Group three with China, Sweden and Zimbabwe. The unseeded Americans - Tom Lehman, John Daly and Larry Mize - are in Group four with second-seeded Argentina, Japan and Australia.
