Annika Sorenstam - October 25, 2012

RSS

Suzann Pettersen earned her 9th career LPGA Tour win last week in South Korea and Annika said that she has been a big fan of hers for many years. Pettersen is someone that many people – herself included – feel will be World #1 someday. Over the years, Pettersen has come close but has not won as much as she would like and Pettersen is also someone who puts a lot of pressure on herself. While she has not personally advised Pettersen, she says that Pettersen has a team of people around her who are there to encourage her and to tell her that she has the talent to win.

Annika said that she has enjoyed getting to know Pettersen on and off the golf course and has enjoyed getting to be paired with her in the Solheim Cup in the past. Pettersen is known for her leadership and performance in the Solheim Cup and it is a perfect place for her because of individual talents as well as her intensity in the heat of competition.

Yani Tseng got off to a great start this year but she has struggled for the past few months. Tseng is a person who not only puts a lot of pressure on herself on the course but she is also a person who  tries to please everyone and help everyone on and off the course and after a while, that self-induced pressure takes a toll. Annika added that she is encouraged to see Yani playing well lately including her good finish last week in South Korea and her strong start in Taiwan. Annika said that she knows what it is like to be under pressure as World #1 and she learned how to strike a balance in her career and in her life in order to succeed.

Michelle Wie is another person who has struggled lately and Annika said that she has no doubt that many people want her to succeed and believe that she will succeed. However, Michelle has to truly want to succeed and while she certainly has the talent, Annika said that she also has to have the interest and the inner drive to rise to the top.

Annika said that she has watched Jesper Parnevik’s video which has him and a group of friends lip-synching to “Gangham Style” and said that while she enjoyed watching it, it is something that she would not do herself. Jesper is Jesper and he certainly proved that in the video.
