Artis Gilmore - September 22, 2011

Artis Gilmore is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and was in Long Island earlier this week for the Mentor’s Champions Golf Challenge. He celebrated his birthday out on Long Island during this event and he really enjoyed getting to spend it with friends and with legends from different sports for a great cause. It is a great opportunity for them to give back. For all of them, someone had a great impact in their individual lives which helped them to reach the heights that they have been able to reach in their lives. Personally, he has had a number of people like that in his life including his parents and his brother who taught him how to play basketball. He has also been fortunate enough to have had a number of teachers help him while he was growing up. His favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson. When it comes to his game, he says that it is a work in progress and he is embarrassed to say what his handicap is. Also, golf is a very difficult game for a man who is 7 foot 2 inches tall because for one thing, the ball is much smaller.
