Brittany Lang earned her first career LPGA Tour win on Sunday in the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic on Sunday and became the first player from Duke University to earn a win on the LPGA Tour. She has heard from just about everyone related to the Duke family since she won on Sunday including her golf coach and her teammates and it just amazes her that she is the first player from Duke to win on the LPGA Tour.
Playing the par 5 18th hole, she felt that 4 would always be an OK score but that she would need a 3 at some point to win so it was a bit of a surprise that birdie ended up being enough to win on Sunday.
This was the first year of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Canada and every time the LPGA Tour heads to Canada, the fans come out in full force. Thousands of people came out to the tournament last week and they were all incredibly vocal in their support. It is unusual to have this level of excitement at a tournament that is not a Major Championship but whenever you can play in a tournament like that, it is always very special.
Thanks to this win in Canada, she feels much more relaxed and much more confident heading into the U.S. Women’s Open. It is her favorite tournament and it is the one that she wants to win the most. She came close as an amateur when she finished runner-up in the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open and she would love to win it next week at Blackwolf Run.
