Corbin Mills - November 6, 2012

Corbin Mills, who won the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links, is one of the six players who now advance to Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School because of Blayne Barber’s self-disqualification six days after the end of First Stage. Mills was also a teammate of Barber on the 2012 U.S. Palmer Cup team.

Mills said that he was in Charleston, SC visiting his girlfriend after the First Stage of Q-School when he heard the news. He was taking some time off after he thought he had missed out on Second Stage and it was certainly very surprising to find out that he was now in Second Stage. Barber had to make a very tough decision as careers are on the line and he is happy to know that Barber feels he made the right decision regardless of the fact that he obviously benefits from Barber’s decision to disqualify himself. He is not at all concerned about practice time because at this point he is just happy to have another chance to advance to the PGA TOUR in 2013.

Mills said that he has not had a chance to speak with Barber but he plans to speak with him at some point. He only recently found out about the disqualification and he is looking forward to finding out all of the details behind the incident. He feels that the four or five days that he has taken off following the first stage will serve him well for the second stage and he will be playing in Brooksville, Florida. He will take Second Stage one day at a time because the entire incident has been surreal and he just wants to start playing.

After hearing the news from the PGA TOUR, Mills told his girlfriend that he had to go call his Mom to sort everything out and after he talked to his Mom, he was then able to discuss the incident further with his girlfriend because it was such a surprise.
