2001 Open Champion and 13-time PGA TOUR Winner David Duval works with the K9s For Warriors organization which works to train and provide service canines to assist U.S. military veterans in their return to civilian life from the battlefield. K9s For Warriors was started by his father Bob Duval and his wife Shari so he had a chance to spend time with this organization and learn about the work that it did. Canines serve such an important role beyond companionship in helping our heroes return to normal life. So many of our veterans are traumatized from their time on the battlefield and they have difficulty handling a return to a peaceful environment.
He did not know what to think of the organization when it first started but it has been amazing to watch this organization grow and truly impact the lives of so many people. The organization is getting recognized by many people and groups around the country and that recognition is much deserved.
Veterans Day is a time to be thankful for all of the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans and give thanks to the men and women of our armed forces who defend these freedoms at home and abroad. He has not served in the military but he still has a great appreciation for the sacrifice of these great men and women.
Looking ahead to 2013, his biggest goal is getting healthy again. He suffered a broken bone in his foot and that is why he did not compete in the Fall Series and is unable to compete in Q –School next month. So before he thinks about his goals on the course, he wants to get healthy again so he can properly prepare for the 2013 season.
