Fredrik Jacobson is in Cromwell, Connecticut at the Media Day for the Travelers Championship where he will be the defending champion in June. Jacobson earned his first PGA TOUR win in June of last year at TPC River Highlands and he said that he felt very good all week long as he had been playing well in the weeks prior to the Travelers Championship. He was able to stay in the moment all week and not get carried away by the excitement and it was wonderful that he was able to earn that first win.
He does not know where he got the nickname “The Junk Man” and while everyone insists that it is a positive nickname, he does not know the origin although he would definitely like to know where it came from.
The fact that he was in 2nd place as late as Sunday in the 2011 U.S. Open gave him a lot of inspiration and confidence heading into the Travelers Championship because he was able to demonstrate to himself that he can play well on a big stage.
The Ryder Cup comes to mind every now and then and he really began to think about it after he finished 2nd in the WGC-HSBC Champions. Unfortunately, he has not had another really big week in an event that would count towards the European Points List because among the WGC-Match Play, WGC-Cadillac Championship, and The Masters, his best event was The Masters and he was still outside the top 10 that week.
