Gary Christian - November 2, 2011

For finishing 9th on the Nationwide Tour, Christian moves to the PGA TOUR in 2012. It is culmination of a lot of hard work and having his family with him last week in South Carolina made it that much more special when he received his PGA TOUR card. The mental side of the game is what separates the men from the boys so to speak and when you get into your 40s the mental side becomes that much more important and you have to work harder to not allow bad thoughts to come into your head at key moments. He has a very deliberate practice putting routine and he said that it looks more mechanical than it actually is. The goal is to accomplish something in his routine and it is all based on visuals. It may not be the prettiest routine but he feels that he is successful with it. Listening to the audio from “The Weakest Link,” he said that he felt cold sweats thinking about his experience on the show in 2001. His favorite course is the Links of North Dakota which is a fantastic place and where he spent a lot of times when he was playing the Dakotas Tour. Growing up you always dream of scoring the winning goal in the World Cup but he feels he has a better chance to win the Open Championship. He roots for the underdog as he likes the Cubs in baseball and England in the World Cup. When it comes to this week’s LSU-Alabama game, a lot of his Alabama friends are feeling confident but he has a sense that LSU could pull off a shocker this weekend.
