Ian Poulter - November 6, 2012

On Sunday, Ian Poulter earned his second PGA TOUR win and second WGC win in the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. He is back home in Orlando, Florida to get ready to head back overseas to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The 4-0-0 performance in the Ryder Cup with all of the big putts on Saturday and Sunday were key not only to Team Europe at Medinah but also key to his recent strong performances after the Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup absolutely played a role in a great play in China last week.

He does not know if he is the best player in the world without a Major because there are several players with that title. It would mean a great deal to him to win a Major Championship and he is continuing to work towards that goal. He is very confident about the state of his game right now as he has worked very hard over the past several months and he has had a number of great tournaments although it took some time to finally earn a win in 2012.

While he is happy to have won a pair of WGC events, he does wish that he had more wins on the PGA TOUR. He is very tough on himself and he knows that he is capable of winning more than he has. The reason that he has a lot of confidence on the course is that when he is playing well, he truly believes that he can win at any time in any tournament in the world.

Every player who has not won a Major puts extra pressure on themselves and he is no different from fellow Englishmen Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, and Justin Rose. While he does not discuss this with those players, he knows that they are all the same in that they want to win a Major more as time goes on.

Now that he has qualified for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, he is definitely considering making Kapalua the site of his 2012 debut. Originally, that event was not a part of his schedule largely because he had yet to qualify for it but now that he has, he may make a change to his schedule to accommodate that tournament.
