Jason Sobel - October 14, 2011

Webb Simpson is trying to pass Luke Donald for the lead on the PGA TOUR Money List and the fact that he started with a 63 at Sea Island does not surprise him in the least. He is one of the best players in the world and is maybe the most consistent right now. The relationship that he has with his caddie Paul Tesori is a big part of that success. He feels that Luke Donald until 2011 has been a bit of an underachiever but because of a lot of hard work, Donald has exceeded all of his expectations and he is very happy to see Donald win three times and be the most consistent player in the world.

Fall Series ratings on Golf Channel are up 235% over 2010 and he feels that the ratings are up because the fields are stronger which is ironic because the Fall Series was created for those players who are struggling to keep their PGA TOUR cards. When it comes to questions about Tiger Woods, Sobel is asked about his personal life more than any other subject. Because his personal life was so private for so long before the scandal broke out in November 2009, now many people are asking him about who Tiger is hanging out with, who he is dating now that he is divorced, who are the people giving him advice, etc. When Tiger is in the field, it seems as though the atmosphere is a lot more heightened and a lot more strained because of the extra security, the extra scrutiny, and everything else that has come with the scandal and the struggles. Tiger has dealt with the spotlight his entire career but when you are trying to get out of a slump and back to your previous level of success, it is hard enough to do that when no one is watching but trying to do it when the entire world is watching is incredibly daunting for any person.
