Europeans have won each of the last two weeks and Jay mentioned how the Morning Drive guys teased him a couple of weeks back about all of the American winners. Jay had said that if a European had not won before The Masters that there would be a problem and obviously there is not a problem in this case.
He was not surprised to see Justin Rose win last week at Doral because of how well he played the week before in The Honda Classic. Rose is definitely a name to think about for not only The Masters but also for the European Ryder Cup team at Medinah. Right now, Rose appears to very comfortable on the course and in control of how he moves the ball right and left. Jay can see Rose winning many more times on the PGA TOUR.
Rose is based in the U.S. and plays on the PGA TOUR and Jay said that that could have been an issue two years ago when Colin Montgomerie, who is very pro-European Tour, did not use one of his Captain’s Picks on Rose. Olazabal’s main goal is winning and if Rose is deserving of a pick, he thinks Olazabal will use one of his two picks on him.
McIlroy is clearly the best player in the world and the increased exercise has not only helped to make him stronger, but it has also seemingly decreased the back issues that Rory experienced a couple of years. He is hitting on all cylinders right now and it is amazing that he does not think he is playing his best when he seems to be leading in every statistical ranking including the Official World Golf Ranking, Ryder Cup points, FedExCup points, scoring average, etc.
Miguel Angel Jimenez is someone who is always himself no matter where he is and he is the kind of guy who if he sees you in a restaurant, he will come up to you and say hi. He has had a great career on the European Tour but he will a legacy equal to or greater than that for his personality.
