Jerry Foltz - March 4, 2012

Jerry Foltz is at PGA National this weekend as a part of Golf Channel’s coverage of The Honda Classic. His impression of The Bear Trap on Saturday was that despite being played in more favorable winds, those holes still had plenty of teeth and with the winds switching today, you are going to see a lot more carnage and you are going to see The Bear Trap that we are all more familiar with. This Spotlight Coverage of The Bear Trap is unprecedented and Golf Channel and NBC are doing a great job with this and are already coming up with a lot more ideas.

Harris English and Brian Harman are a couple of young players who are chasing Rory McIlroy on Sunday and having covered  the Nationwide Tour for many years, Foltz said that he has been predicting this kind of success for Harris English for a long time. He saw English win the Nationwide Children’s Hospitals Invitational and he also admires how well English has been raised in the game of golf by his father, his coaches at the University of Georgia, and his swing coaches. If Rory does not win today, he fully expects the winner to be Harris English.

He has known Tom Gillis for over 20 years and he knows that he feels as though he has nothing to lose today because he has been to so many places over so many years. Gillis has a self-deprecating sense of humor and his life will not change no matter if he wins or loses. In Gillis’ opinion, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. To be a successful professional golfer, you have to be an eternal optimist and Gillis is that kind of player. If he does not win today, Gillis will feel as though he will have a good chance to win the next time he plays.
