John Huh earned his first PGA TOUR win in the Mayakoba Golf Classic in an 8-hole playoff over Robert Allenby. The magnitude of his win has not really sunk in yet as he has arrived in Florida for The Honda Classic. Coming out of all three stages of Q-School, he certainly did not expect to have this much success this early.
When he was in contention heading into the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open, it was an amazing feeling to be in that position as a rookie and that experience taught him how to control his nerves and that experience definitely helped him in the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
He felt the most nervous on the first playoff hole with Robert Allenby and that was probably the most nervous that he had ever felt in his life. He told Jerry Foltz that he was not sleeping when Robert Allenby made a double bogey and instead was just resting a bit after his final round and after practicing in preparation for a possible playoff.
If he did not make it to the PGA TOUR, he would have returned to Korea to play the Korean Tour and the OneAsia Tour while occasionally playing in Monday Qualifiers on the PGA TOUR but obviously those plans have changed.
He has been asked about his name and the phrase “Huh?” while out on the PGA TOUR and those questions have only increased recently and he looks forward to playing along with that phrase and having some fun with it.
