Major Dan Rooney is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation and Patriot Golf Day. Rooney is in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2012 Patriot Cup which benefits the families of our nation’s fallen and disabled military service members.
Rooney is a PGA professional and a former F-16 fighter pilot who served 3 tours of duty in Iraq. From his experiences, he knows that freedom is not free and the Patriot Cup is a three day event that honors God and country over Memorial Day weekend.
The Folds of Honor Foundation has provided scholarships to thousands of members of the families of fallen and disabled heroes. Memorial Day is not about flipping burgers but instead it is about honoring these great heroes.
He feels that he has planted a small seed of patriotism that has been cultivated by many others including the PGA of America. The Folds of Honor Foundation hopes that their work in raising money for scholarships will help these kids pursue and achieve their dreams by getting an education.
While this event is for a serious cause, Rooney acknowledged that there has been in the past and will be a healthy amount of trash talking on the golf course among the players, celebrities, and everyone else playing in the Patriot Cup. He is very excited about what is going to go on today and he is also very proud to put God and country in the same sentence not only today but every day.
