Mark Wiebe - June 13, 2012

Wiebe was tied for the 36-hole lead in the 1987 U.S. Open with Tom Watson. He feels that The Olympic Club is truly a great golf course and a great Major Championship venue. There is not an easy shot on the entire golf shot so every player will have to be on top of their game at all times.

While he played The Olympic Club many times as a young man, he has not played there in several years and he is actually saddened by some of the changes because he felt that the course was excellent the way it was. One of the great things about The Olympic Club is that weather conditions including fog and rain could have a significant impact on how the course played from day to day.

Michael Allen, who has been an Olympic Club member for close to 40 years, is playing in the U.S. Open this year and Wiebe said that Allen is a great guy and they have played a lot of golf together over the years at The Olympic Club. Wiebe feels that the hardest thing for Allen in trying to earn a place in the U.S. Open was the Sectional Qualifier. Now that he is in the field, the hard part is over and Allen knows so much about the course and he is playing so well right now that it will be interesting to see how he performs. Allen is a long hitter and he knows all of the ins and outs of The Olympic Club.
