In her first start since the death of her mother four weeks ago in a car accident, Melissa Reid won the Prague Golf Masters on the Ladies European Tour on Sunday. The reaction she has received from her family and friends on the Ladies European Tour has been quite overwhelming. She did not expect such a reaction and it has all been very special and very emotional.
After what she has been through over the past few weeks, there is nothing that she could experience now that is worse than what she has already experienced. She feels that she will ultimately become stronger because of this experience as the weeks and months pass. This win has given her father a great deal of joy which is wonderful.
Even with all that has happened, she hopes to be able to play more in the United States and she is preparing for the U.S. Women’s Open next week. She plans to go through LPGA Tour Q-School at the end of the year and hopefully she will earn her LPGA Tour card for the 2013 season.
After the death of her mother, she spoke with her father and her family about whether or not she would return to tournament golf and they told her that she should in part because her mother would want her to return to competition. When she started to practice again, she found herself feeling better because she was able to focus on her game and she decided then that she wanted to play golf again.
