Morning Drive Contributor Annika Sorenstam sat down with legendary women’s soccer player Mia Hamm at the Escape for Good charity event in Phoenix, Arizona. When asked about the state of soccer, Hamm said that she is very excited and pointed out that we saw how much parity there was in the sport during the last World Cup. There is a lot of enthusiasm for the sport among young people and that creates great optimism for the future.
Some of her foundation’s initiatives involve helping young girls by funding sports programs among other programs that will work to help young girls figure out what they want to do and what they want to achieve in their lives.
Being a mother is the most wonderful feeling in the world and she has asked her husband why they did not start having kids sooner. Their children are the most wonderful people in the lives of both her and her husband.
She loves the fact that great athletes like Lance Armstrong and Andre Agassi are working hard to create a network of charitable foundations that reach out to help people not only in the United States but also all over the world. Many athletes may not be able to promote their foundations alone but if they are part of a network, more foundations will be able to be formed and more people will be helped.
