- Webb Wins
Webb Simpson is a first-time major champion! He won the U.S. Open on the strength of 4 birdies in 5 holes. His final round 68 got him to +1 which was good enough for a one shot win over Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson.
- Jordan Rules
Weekend rounds of 69 and 70 earned Jordan Spieth Low Amateur honors in the U.S. Open. He topped 17-year-old Beau Hossler by two shots when Hossler shot a final round 76.
- Major Meltdown
Tiger Woods started the final round +6 on the first six holes to extinguish any chances for his first comeback win in a major championship. He made 3 birdies from there to shoot a 73 and finish +7 in a tie for 21st.
- Masters Bound
Michael Thompson and John Peterson are among the players who have earned invitations to the 2013 Masters. Thompson finished in a tie for 2nd while Peterson tied for 4th. The top 8 and ties in the U.S. Open receive invitations to the 2013 Masters.
