Paige Mackenzie - November 14, 2012

LPGA Tour Member Paige Mackenzie is an analyst this week for Golf Channel’s coverage of the CME Group Titleholders which is the final event of the 2012 LPGA Tour. She feels that the CME Group Titleholders and its format is a great way to end the season because it spotlights all of the events during the season as three players from each event qualify for the season finale.

She is a big fan of Twitter and when it comes to the players that she follows, she mentioned Graeme McDowell and Karin Sjodin, adding that while Karin may not have a lot of followers she is very funny and entertaining in person and on her Twitter page.

Mackenzie is a board member for the LPGA Tour and when she talks to other players about the progress and changes, the players are very supportive and they understand that the LPGA Tour is a global tour and they have really embraced that. The LPGA Tour is the leading women’s golf tour in the world and the players understand that and they are supportive of growing the LPGA Tour around the world.

When it comes to the Player of the Year points system on the LPGA Tour, there will never be a perfect system. In her opinion, wins matter more than money and for that reason the money list should not be the determining factor behind the Player of the Year award. Stacy Lewis may not have won a Major this year and may not be leading the Money List but she has won four times which is more than anyone else on the LPGA Tour this year.

The LPGA Tour has made it clear that pace of play is very important to the promotion of the LPGA Tour to its fans on television as well as the fans at the tournaments. She has been on the LPGA Tour for 6 years and the players as well as the LPGA Tour have worked very hard to improve pace of play and they will continue to do so.

On the question of anchoring one’s putter, she has had several conversations with other players about why more women aren’t anchoring their putters and the players really do not know and then she joked that maybe it was because women do not have bellies.

Mackenzie said that we should watch Suzann Pettersen as well as 2012 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year So Yeon Ryu. Pettersen has won recently on the LPGA Tour and while So Yeon Ryu has not won this year, she has been incredibly consistent all year long and has been in contention a number of times.
