Paul Simson - October 9, 2012

Last week, Paul Simson won the USGA Senior Amateur Championship for the second time in the last three years. When asked what it felt like to win for a second time, Simson said that when he won for the first time it was an unbelievable honor because he had waited so long for that first USGA title. He felt very comfortable the second time around and added that it is a great honor to win a national championship and to be able to say that he has won two national championships is an unbelievable feeling.

He turned professional in 1973 and gave the Qualifying School a try without much success. After trying the life of a professional golfer, he decided that there were more opportunities for success in the business world and he became a banker while reclaiming his amateur status.

Experience tends to be the best teacher because it takes time to get comfortable in the competitive atmosphere. Early on in his competitive career, he was incredibly nervous whenever he competed but he has now reached a point where he can compete and not be nervous.
