Steve Stricker is chasing his 4th straight win in the John Deere Classic this week and one of the main reasons why Stricker even plays in Illinois is the charter flight to The Open Championship. Stricker said if it weren’t for the charter flight, he would not play in the John Deere Classic. When the charter flight was introduced, Stricker started playing in the event again.

Ben Crane will be on the charter flight even though at this moment he is not in the field. He is the first alternate for The Open Championship but he is for all intensive purposes the third alternate. He will need a couple more players to withdraw because as of now, there are more than 156 players in the field. Brian Davis was in Crane’s position in the past and he travelled to The Open Championship because he did not want to let any opportunity to play in the oldest Major pass him by.

The Ryder Cup is very much on Steve Stricker’s mind especially being a graduate of the University of Illinois as well as a Chicago Bears fan. He is still involved with the University of Illinois Men’s Golf Team but at 13th on the Points List, he is well outside the top 8 and he would prefer to qualify instead of asking Davis Love III for a Captain’s Pick.

Last week at The Greenbrier Classic, Stricker spent some time with his friend and past Ryder/Presidents Cup partner Tiger Woods. Tiger spoke with Stricker about what he is trying to do this week in winning in four straight years and Tiger reminded him that he has accomplished the feat twice and is the only person still living to win an event in four straight years.
