Justin Rose jumped up from 34th to 3rd with his win at Cog Hill in a very big week at the BMW Championship. It will be the players who make or break the FedExCup and the sight of players like Camilo Villegas and Justin Rose who are truly pumped to try to advance to the final event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs really helps to lift the stature of the series. Rose can now control his own destiny and John Senden and Geoff Ogilvy also made huge moves to play their way into the TOUR Championship. Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel played his way out of East Lake and he ended up being hurt by his decision to skip The Barclays. It can be argued that Rickie Fowler is one of the biggest disappointments of the 2011 Playoffs as he will miss the TOUR Championship for a second straight year and he will likely miss the Presidents Cup as well.
Presidents Cup Captain’s Picks will be made next week and Greg Norman’s job was made a little easier by Geoff Ogilvy securing his place in the top 10 with his performance at Cog Hill. Vijay Singh is a contender for a Captain’s Pick despite rumors that he may be injured again. Aaron Baddeley is another contender as he would be another Australian member of the team. Although Camilo Villegas closed very well in the Playoffs, he may be overlooked by Norman as the Presidents Cup is in Australia this year. He does not think that Norman will have go way down the list like he did last year with Adam Scott but Fred Couples will have quite a decision to make as he has said he is looking at Snedeker, Bill Haas, and Keegan Bradley. While he thinks that Camilo Villegas would be great on Norman’s team, he is still leaning towards Aaron Baddeley because Royal Melbourne is the Australians’ Augusta National.
