Ron Sirak - November 26, 2012

RSS

When asked about the announced future changes to The Old Course at St. Andrews, Sirak said that this is what people in the news business call a Friday news dump. It is a big story as 9 holes will be altered for the 2015 Open Championship and the bunkering will be changed for the first time since 1949. Sirak feels that the timing of the announcement on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend was to try to avoid wide news coverage. It has received news coverage and famed course architect Tom Doak has spoken of leading a campaign to stop the proposed changes.

A number of notable international players including Nicolas Colsaerts, Peter Hanson, and Martin Kaymer are joining the PGA TOUR in 2013 and Sirak expects to see this trend continue especially because a player can get half of his European Tour starts in Majors and WGC with much of those events held in the United States. A number of international players enjoy playing for a few weeks in the United States every year because the travelling is much easier and takes less time than some of the travels between European Tour events.
